Some network operators selling the E, however, replace Huawei's software with their own, which often is software-locked albeit not SIM-locked to work only with the operator's own network.
End-users can use either third-party software such as MWconn freeware or alternative operating systems e. Linux to circumvent this and use their E with any SIM, or flash their device with Huawei's original software. Since the release of Windows 7 users have reported a number of issues that require a firmware upgrade to the modem.

Joined Apr 4, Messages This 2g instead of 3g phenomenon seems to be a common problem with the E Has anyone had any success with turning 3g on with the generic dash? Is it even worth the hassle of installing it? If you are using VMC 9. But I'd rather it not be an on and off thing. I'm also waiting for VC technical to get back to me. They were "inspecting" the tower or something like that, but I think the problem is a little close to home - like plugged to my PC!

This worked for me When the VC network is only loving the 2g signal, I clicked tools and find networks in the VC lite software. Voila - You then have the choice of whether to connect to 3g or 2g where available even without the option of 3g only or 3g preferred. I've found once locked onto a 3g network it does not move.
It's working for me, might work for you too. CeRRaNo said:. When the VC network is only loving the 2g signal, I clicked tools and find networks in the VC lite software. Joined Apr 5, Messages 9. But the problem is solved and the 3G network is back and all is well again. I mentioned earlier on this thread that someone was using metal objects to block certain towers from the modem.
The crazy thing is that if I place certain metal objects around the card on my desk while logged on, I can actually hear the card switching from the one basestation blocked by metal to another basestation and BAM! I have like quadruple the speeds!! Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads. Remove From My Forums.

Hi Norwin, Code 31 means Windows cannot load the driver. For more information, please refer to this TechNet article: Code This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device Based on the current information, it is recommended contacting the hardware manufacturer directly and let them help to upgrade the driver and firmware.
Regards, Linda. Tuesday, January 19, AM. Edited by cdobbs Sunday, January 17, PM. Hi cdobbs, Thanks for the feedback. I've followed the instructions meticulously and I'm still not getting any joy. I've attempted this on two E's. Additionally, I've also tried connecting with a Huawei K, which is a more recent model. In all cases I receive a Code 31 error. What else can I try, as I've spent a fortune on the laptop as a gift for my wife yet it is practically useless without connectivity.
Going out and buying a new modem is also not an option - our exchange rate makes them prohibitively expensive, therefore we wait for our free hardware upgrades, and that's what we have at the moment. Regards, Norwin. Sunday, January 17, PM. Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. What I find amusing is that all the modems did work, and now they've stopped working?! Thanks, Norwin. Monday, January 18, AM. Hi, I've tried all of the above, on all three modems, with no success.
I've used the software from Huawei, as per your link, as well as Web 'n Walk, especially the 64 bit intergrator from T-Mobile, to no avail. I've tried all the 64 bit drivers I can lay my hands on using above instructions, and still no joy.
