I am always having to shut down my system by just pressing the off button, and I know that causes more problems. I do check and try to clean up the registry and do have programs to do that, but overall, those old unsupported files were still there.
I was spending a full gig on these backups on a 40 gig HD. These things really add up if your machine is old enough and you have enough MS products on it i. But this tool makes it easier now i guess :D,.

Change the percentage of disk space you wish to allow.. I suggest moving the slider until you have just about 1GB MB or close to that Click OK..
Then Click OK again. It may be MUCH larger right now. If you had a LOT, this could take minutes or more. You can use an application that scans your system for log files and temporary files and use that to get rid of those:.
Ccleaner Free! Those can help you visually discover where all the space is being used. Then you can determine what to do. After that - you will want to check for any physical errors and arrange everything for efficient access". This will help you make sure your update system is ready to do this for you. Brand Representative for AJ Tek. Follow the instructions at the top of the script, but essentially run. Quick question for you, when it comes to recovering disk space; how is this actually achieved? I understand removing from the database and thus the GUI, but to actually regain the disk space?
I'm in a position of requiring drivers Surface Pro 4 and Surface Books on my WSUS instance but am keen to run regular maintenance to get the space back from drivers I decline.
But nothing seems to recover that space as far as I can tell. My script drops the records for drivers in the database -FirstRun uses the SQL method as it's usually necessary, but I have the optional -RemoveWSUSDriversPS if you want to do it using the 'front end' powershell method - but this usually results in time-outs and not actually working. Runs the server cleanup wizard this is the actual process that removes the data from the hard drive.
It's a built in procedure that runs care of Microsoft. I've just gone through some maintenance and have some strange results. I was hoping to see some serious disk space gains as per your response but instead saw around 2GB come back. Have you ever experienced anything like this? I assume you mean using this in Powershell? This I've already got a handle on, yet still it's really not giving my disk space back! Any ideas or pointers would greatly appreciated.
This command can take hours to days to complete and is the only command not in -FirstRun but in ScheduleRun on the Quarterly Schedule.
I've seen it take 6 days, so be patient. There may be errors involved with this for shared updates eg, XP and Server share update packages. If you decline the one for XP, but still have it approved for Server , it is still in use and cannot be removed.
I did randomly select some declined drivers, viewed the 'file information' and was not able to find the files on disk so I suspect that perhaps the drivers are not there and I have other issues which as you outline may be to do with shared updates.
